He wasn’t being a deadbeat. Tupac was lied to by his mother. That’s why Pac thought another man was his father and the his father died. Afeni kept Pac away from him and she moved a lot.
Also Garland seems like a nicer figure to include in your life than Legs. RIP, I do not mean to undermine the man’s influence in one of the most inspirational figures of our time but it kind of alludes to the idea that Afeni may of been choosing the flashy drug dealer over the hard working blue collar guy - what is Garland, a trucker or something?

Legs barely was in Pac life too. He was a crack user that introduced it to Afeni. He had very few father figures in his life. Mutulah was in prison most of Pac life too. She got pregnant by Garland around the time she was with another guy (I can’t believe I forgot his name) but apparently he (not Garland) had a polygamous style relationship (that’s what I read, not sure of validity). I think at one point she honestly didn’t know who the father was, time went by, she saw the resemblance but felt too much had gone to include Garland in his life. That’s probably why she lied. Her and Garland were just a in the moment hook up too.

I had the same feelings about Afeni's pulling the plug on Pac.
They didn't have a male leader to curb that feminine, emotional, smart dumb energy.

According to Pac's sister she said the doctors had to revive him (Pac) several times. She's said if the decision was up to Pac himself in that situation he would've chose to go out. He would've viewed himself as being in a weak position.

As a Pac fan of course I want him still here but knowing how Pac was and his lyrics I don't think he'd want to be walking around missing a finger and having one lung. He was in the prime of his life at 25 so that would've impacted his mind severely to have to slow down his lifestyle to that degree. He was already a person who was battling depression so I think that type of existence would've broke him completely. Not to mention in 6 months you'd have Biggie dropping his album full of subs at Pac and I'm sure half the east coast would've been making jokes ala how the kids today talk about smoking people in packs.
Oh and not to mention had he lived he'd be going back to Rikers for getting in that fight so that's even worse. I'm sure Puff or whoever would've tried to get him touched behind the walls. This was really the best case scenario minus obviously not getting shot at all the second time.

- lost a finger (movie career faneto)
- lost a lung (music career severly impacted)
- mental trauma from the shooting
- had to be revived umpteen times
- he was very vain and his body would've been wrecked by the surgeries
The guy would NOT have been the same after the shooting. Afeni did the right thing, and chose mercy. Afeni pulled the plug when the doctors said they had to do another major surgery on him...the young mans body had had enough, and Afeni had had enough of her sons body being messed with
