A Dozen Cousins Launches New Product Line Inspired by ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’​

LOS ANGELES, Calif.— A Dozen Cousins announced its new product line inspired by Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which premieres on November 11, 2022. The product line features characters from the upcoming film on its packaging, and includes a new, co-branded Jollof Rice, Jerk Chicken and Coconut Rice Seasoning Sauces, alongside a “vibranium” spoon, which is inspired by the rare and powerful metal native to the fictional nation of Wakanda.


“We’re thrilled to work with Marvel for the premiere of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’” said Ibraheem Basir, Founder and CEO of A Dozen Cousins. “Our new packaging allows us to highlight the many Caribbean dishes that have been shaped and influenced by people of African descent who made this region home. We are taking this opportunity to celebrate a groundbreaking film and honor the impact of the African Diaspora on our favorite foods. Wakanda Forever!”

A Dozen Cousins is a Black-owned brand offering ready-to-eat products inspired by traditional Creole, Caribbean and Latin American recipes.

In honor of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” A Dozen Cousins created a new Jollof Rice Seasoning Sauce. Jollof Rice is a traditional West African dish that features tomatoes, peppers, onions, and spices. This unique seasoning sauce allows consumers to prepare an authentic West African meal by cooking dry rice, water and one pouch of seasoning sauce in a pot or rice cooker.

A Dozen Cousins fan favorite Seasoning Sauces – Jerk Seasoning & Coconut Rice – feature packaging inspired by Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and pair perfectly with the Jollof Rice.

I’m all for brothas getting that bag but couldn’t breh have established his own line of products? I understand the name “Wakanda” has name recognition but it’s pretty cheesy imo and what’s with the jerk seasoning? Coconut rice isn’t even African. It’s south Asian. There are so many flavor combinations he could have kicked this off with and he kinda cheapened out.

Bullshyt. He had an opportunity to tie in real shyt and copped out. He didn’t attach any of his other products to a fictional place or theme. Peruvian pollo Al a brasa, Mexican pollo asada, trini chickpea curry. He kept it as real and authentic as possible, but he knew nikkas like you would put an x on your chest and be happy just to have something even if it didn’t make sense.

Nope. I understand what you’re saying but he already had a jerk seasoning and coconut rice. What he should have done was do more research on African rice dishes and used the “wakanda” banner to introduce those. Wheres the yellow rice? Where’s the brown spinach rice?

Between the two Black Panther films, million dollar donations from Disney were made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to open Stem Innovation Centers in 12 cities. Including Coogler's hometown of Oakland.
