Some people try to claim "Blackness" for people with a certain percent of African ancestry. The Black culture in America was not exclusively created by pure Africans or even 3/4 Africans. I don't know the DeBarges' bio, but everyone can agree that they are part of American Blackness.

What we are claiming or trying to separate people from - the Culture - was created by every type of Black person over the centuries. So it's all of ours.
