I feel like the only person I would even begin a dialogue with is the "Dirt Bag" guy. Africans werent the only people called African booty-scratcher. I was called that for being dark with short starter locs in elementary school.

I do agree that it is a very hurtful derogatory term. I just looked at it as ignorance because being an AA myself, I know not every AA thinks like that. It's only a certain group of ignorant people.

must be a Northeast thing cause the first time I've heard of that term was online..Blacks in that region have a reputation for being ignorant and rude toward black foreigners..I've seen Africans imply the same and say they didn't have those problems in the South...not that we got alot of Africans where i'm from but I've met a few andall but one have bee positve..i've never personally witnessed any African being insulted for being African..sorry to hear about childhood experience though...this is why black kids should be taught black and their cultural pride early

Yeah, the ignorance and self hate in the North NJ hoods was real. But I went to school near the projects so maybe that was a part of it. People saying:
"I gotta stay in the shade cause I don't wanna get black"
"African booty-scratcher"
"You got bead-a-bees/peas in ya hair"
"I need a perm cause my Africa is showing"

Just straight ignorance, but another thing is that everyone snapped on eachother. Everyone got clowned and you either had to clap back, fight or take it. If you wasn't getting clowned about your hair, it was your, skin, nose, clothes, shoes, your mama, your house got roaches, etc.

I had locs since I was 6 and people would ask was I born like that, can I wash my hair, was I jamaican? I remember when I cut off my locs in high school (senior year) and rocked a fro my best friend was surprised at my hair texture. She didn't know her hair could do the same thing.

I think, if we're speaking on general terms. There is a mutual misunderstandings between Black Africans and Black African Americans. Yes you can point to the #bringourgirlshome movement and the like, but as someone who was born in Africa, visits frequently, lives in a very tight African diaspora, yet lived the majority of their life in the US, I can see that I've seen both sides of the sword. Also, using the love of African culture is not the same about caring for the people in which that culture is their life, we see this everyday.
Throughout my life I have been made fun of by my AA friends for being African using regular African stereotypes. It is what it is, I don't take any malice from it, but I've also seen africans have stereotypical views about AAs. To play this game as if its a one-sided argument is ridiculous.

I bet we could compile tweets just like this from AAs.

Saying all we got is "us" is not true. Further division will.continue to weaken the diaspora as Africa is coming up. This is a critical time to build bridges and consolidate power across the world.

In my line of work I visit many job sites with immigrant heavy workforces. Believe me these people might not even like each other but they band together based on race, nationality, culture, religion whatever they can to advance their cause and people. Meanwhile in these same work places you got Jamaicans not fukking with Guyanese or Trini's or Africans or any variation of this stupidity. Nikkaz wanna summount each other and get that token Spotlight while these other people band together and put differences aside and as a result they continue to leap frog black skinned people who are still separating and dividing.

i figured you must be from the Northeast just by that term being used as an insult in your community ..considering the black on black crime rampant in that region of the country it makes sense the kids would grow up with a negative image of Africa...yeah tearing eachother down for jokes is transcendent no matter the region...kids are the most ruthless with that from 5th grade to junior high...we used to call it blowing or ranking on eachother during my school days..i have been a victim of it an even served it..i agree the best way to counter it is to snap back...like you said nothing was really off limits in these situations so it wasn't just darkskin or nappy hair(which speaks volumes about the household they were raised in to think either was a insult,) offbrand shoes/clothes, raggedy house,anything,etc .i sum it up to immaturity and craving attention...most grow out of if with age.
sounds like you were ahead of your time.i don't think any lil girls today rocking locs get much/any flak..i'm not that dark but have very course and i didn't like to get haircuits so i would have a big nappy mane...but 'm male and i always did my own thing and didn't care what nikkas thought though some i'm sure my situation was very different from yours.
