Had an opportunity to watch the full documentary on youtube and the heavy set OG was an absolute mence in Vietnam when he shared his story. It was good see him able to flip that switch off and help his community.

The more men raised by single mothers, the more feminized the population of men become. So you are seeing one aspect of the problem with single-mother households as they pertain to the sort of men being produced out of them. Back in 1965 only 24% were raised in single-mother homes, by 1990 that percent ballooned up to 64%.
When the majority of men are coming from that background, they also end up having a greater influence on the over all culture of the community, and so even men born to two-parent households are starting to act the same. I do not think any of this will change until some sort of catastrophe forces it to change.
