Black Americans been rapping since at least the 40s (possibly earlier as it was said to begin with preachers which been around before the 40s) but it wasn’t considered a genre until decades later. I’d say the guy who kicked it off was comedian pigmeat markham and below you’ll see him in the earliest live rap performance (that we know of as of now) before it was even considered a genre. This song peaked at #19 on the Billboard charts.





Please don’t let people inaccurately rewrite our history.

Unfortunately rap/hip-hop would later become hijacked and used as a propaganda tool to showcase the most negative stereotypes of blacks to the world :francis:
