This thread focuses on the mainstream Black movies of the 90s...
I feel truly this might of been the GOAT era for Black movies...and not just cause I lived it either...
I'll start with this slept on classic...from the Hughes Brothers.
I honestly think this film really bumped up my view on the Hughes Brothers work...because they were able to go from a movie like Menace II Society, to this period piece set between the late 60s to the early 70s and the state of black New York City at the time. There are some really breathtaking and artistic moments present here and a true dedication to crafting a forward thinking vision for the whole film.
I've heard people say this wasn't as great, which is cool, but once you watch the film over you'll realize that the focal point isn't neccessarily the robbery but the events leading to the robbery and the power strugggles that were defined by each of the character's involvement within it...
