How can media propaganda NOT be linked to the effects of racism in this day and age?

There are areas or pockets of almost entirely segregated white people who have hardly ever seen a black person face to face, yet believe whole-heartedly that we are inherently criminal and have negative assumptions about an entire race of people.

How do you figure they learned that? Through negative portrayals in the media. It's not the ONLY way, it's ONE of the ways to reinforce racist ideals.

I wonder what the outcome will be. The appraiser is probably fukked if they have appraised other homes in this area for significantly more. But otherwise they could just say they gave a conservative appraisal.

I already know to completely anonymize my home in California when its time to sell. I know exactly what houses are going for in my neighborhood so I wish they would come with the bullshyt. Hopefully I just get a cash offer and skip all the inspections and appraisals.

The thread topic was about a black couple facing discrimination on their home valuation and you came in here ranting about rap music. As if these policies havent been going on for decades before rap music, and doesn't ultimately have roots in America's slave owning past. The type of hatred behind this is deeply entrenched, even before the first Englishman set foot in modern day America.

Too deeply entrenched to reverse, which is why the couple aren't trying to "change images" , but taking LEGAL action.
Whites felt and acted this way when The Cosby Show was #1 rated show and Bill Cosby was embraced as America's Dad and broadcasting positive Black family unit 24/7.

Fighting to adjust and expand the Black image in mainstream media makes sense for two reasons. To correct the facts for record, and for the benefit of Black children so that they don't feed into/accept/copy the limited caricatures that they see of people who look like them.

Thinking that it will have an effect on changing long held stereotypes and views from whites, is misguided. In my opinion.

The type of white men engaging in this discrimination ain't following rap music or entertainment people really overestimate how many people are tuned into the "culture". They assume everybody's watching what they're watching and don't know there's a world outside their bubble. This is old time racism, racist pricks are racist pricks cause their daddy was racist as well as their daddy before them. All the "positive" imagery in the world ain't going to change shyt. Like you said positive imagery is for OUR self esteem, not this respectability politics bullshyt that blames us for other people's racism.

Happened to a couple in Austin too. When it’s time to appraise my current house in a mostly white neighborhood I’m having some white friends stand in as well to avoid this situation all together. Sad, but it’s the world we live in.
