Social Media has replaced the purpose of Family ReunionsThe new generation dont give af about big get togethers . We used to have big family reunions. Now? Small thanksgivin and parties every now and then
My grandmother died year before last.
My mom died last year.
One thing I noticed, even while my grandmother was months from passing away....
all that cordial family shyt goes out the window once the OGs pass.
No need to keep up appearances out of respect for the family heads.

Also true that it has been declining. Back then I would see group of people wearing family reunion tees out eating or at park
Where’s the link to this “research” 
Probably some form of tourism data. For functions that large you usually don’t just show up, there would be records or space rentals, hotel blocks, etc.
Now that you mention it, I don't see people wearing their family reunion tees anymore, either.
