Spike has a white editor:mjpls::mjgrin:.

I have no idea what the % is, but Tariq is not backed by a white studio.

But seriously, what's the name of your project and where can I see it and support?:feedme:

The film I shared a BTS clip from is still in post. It'll be out later this year, the imdb page is here. This isn't my project however, I did not produce/write/direct it. I'm producing a big neo-soul music video rn and rewriting the 2nd draft of my feature screenplay :ehh:

Harvey World to Dallas, TX
it's funny how the real bullishness savy dudes on here, lack common sense and decorum
Are white people not guilty of the same things? :comeon: It’s called vetting people.

I know the realities of the industry but if I’m making a project about black pride and black history, I’m going to go out of my way to find as many qualified black people as I can to work it. Especially if it’s black funded, which his projects are.

Y’all don’t see how backwards it is to have black people donate $200k+ and turn around and not hire black people to work?

Above the fray.
It's almost as if folks don't know that black film crews have existed since the 80's, including Spike's :ohhh:
So, what I'm gathering from brehs who seem to understand Tariq is that QUALITY= White film crews?

As in, it's like finding a needle in a haystack to find black film positions?

Brehs are in here saying, "nah, I understand, because I tried to put my man on..."

Aye, fukk ya mans. We are talking about black professionals with LinkedIn pages and credentials. That doesn't exist?

FOH.

Sounds like Umar hiring a white attorney and/or real estate agent.

Most reasonable people can listen to and weigh a critique of a person who they follow. About 3 pages into this thread, it became clear to even his biggest fans that he was copping pleas with his comments (and why).
It was clear right away for the majority of people reading the thread. What the people who saw through it might have in common, might be the way they grew up.

Some of us had the experience of seeing trained & educated Black people in different professions when we grew up. We saw hustleman types also, and we know the difference between the two sets of people.
Person who grew up like that would immediately raise an eyebrow to a comment dismissing the existence of trained Black people in a field, even if they were NOT familar with the industry,or the area of the country being discussed.

Not everybody grew up seeing the same things. Some may immediately equate Black people as hustlemen, so a comment reinforcing that wouldn't raise a red flag.

There was a thread about vocational training and the reluctance of some to pursue it . I said that many people might be confused about the full nature of certain industries. I said that some might not understand that there are differences beween a handyman, a licensed plumber and a licensed master plumber. Their limited experiences might have them thinking that there is no difference. You never know what experiences others may have that shape their views. You also don't know what circles people move and orbit around.

You figure that a person relates on some level to someone they follow. .Might have similar backgrounds and viewpoints. Not surprising that a tn follower would see things the way he does. What was surprising is the reluctance to accept that his comments here run contrary to what he claims to promote.

I can tell you from experience and I'm Blacker than the Ace of Spades.
When putting together my creative endeavors I reached out to my brothers and sisters first and foremost
The vast majority of them shucked and jived me, tried to pat my pockets, ego tripped, and generally wasted my time.
When I reached out to cacs out of desperation, they were johnny on the spot.
I was embarrassed and hurt that I couldn't make my shyt an all Black thing
I learned that you hire the mf who's gonna get the job done, point blank period
Even with that, I wont stop trying to put my people on because I realize that some of us will deliver and just need a look
I'm more than willing to cut my people some slack if they really need it and are gonna deliver
But what you cant do is dig yourself a hole tryna look out

That gif is from a show created by a Black person, that was close to getting cancelled until that Black person brought in the right Black person to EP and direct the show.

Here she is talking about it.

funny, doesn't seem like she shucked and jived to me.
