A young Detroit man is released from a rehabilitation facility a year after being shot five times.

Treaunte Oldham's recovery continues and his family says he'll need lots of help.

"When he first got shot, the doctor said he wasn't going to make it," said Zenobia Oldham. "They had to take half of his brain out.

It's hard to stop the tears looking over at her 18-year-old son. Treaunte is back home for the first time in eight months.

"My son would say 'Mom I'm blind,'" Zenobia said. "But I tell him you are still alive."

Treaunte Oldham, with his cousin on the city's northwest side near Pembroke and Kentucky last November. They woke up to two gun shots.

"I said you don't have to shoot me, I asked him please don't kill me, don't kill me," Teaunte said. "And he popped me three more times."

"When they took half of his brain out, it took some of his memory," Zenobia said. " He doesn't remember who it was."

His cousin was killed. Treaunte, still with a bullet lodged in his neck, lost his left eye and had his jaw replaced.

"He's also somewhat paralyzed on his left side," his mom said. "He can't see. He can't hear out of one ear. And for him, he's 18 - that's just sad."

His parents are struggling to pay medical bills and to get him in and out of his bed nsuitable for Treys needs. They also need a wheel-chair accessible van and a ramp.

"It's just a lot," said Kevin Oldham, Treaunte's father. "It's becoming overwhelming."

"I just thank my mom and dad for not giving up on me," Treaunte said. "And showing me real love."

The Oldhams say they could never give up on their child who they call their "survivor."

FOX 2: "Are you in pain right now?"

"Emotional pain," Treaunte said. "My cousin is never coming back."

He and his family also won't give up to find the men responsible.

"He's still a better man than those cowards," Kevin said. "If he never gets back to the Treaunte we brought into this world, I'm okay with that."

Murderer of 3-year-old Amiracle Williams sentenced in Facebook feud shooting

The man convicted of killing 3-year-old Amiracle Williams was sentenced Friday.

The little girl was killed when a Facebook feud between two women turned into a fist fight and then gunfire.

On Friday in court Amiracle's family spoke to her killer right before he was sent to prison.

"A 3-year-old, who do you think you are to take anybody's life," said one family member. "And to take a machine gun to a kid's fight. Back in the day you would fight and get it over with.

"My family has been destroyed."

Moments later, the judge sentenced Donnie Everett to 43-to-60 years behind bars for second degree murder.

Everett then spoke the victim's family, saying he's sorry Amiracle died, but claiming he had no choice but to open fire.

"Everybody walks around with guns in the city of Detroit," Everett said. "If you don't you're a victim. The father said we're going to let the girls fight. I said if they start jumping I will put it in my hands to break up this fight.

"I did fire my gun, I did not intentionally hit anyone. I wasn't aiming to hit anyone, I wasn't aiming to do anything. I was scared and I didn't have anyway else to take cover."

In addition to Amiracle being fatally shot, her mother and father were also shot that day - as was a 17-year-old woman. The other three survived.

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit police are investigating after a woman was shot and killed and another man was shot and injured Thursday afternoon on the city's east side.

According to police, it happened on Elmdale, which is south of Outer Drive.

Police say a man was inside his car talking to a woman outside of the car when a car pulled up and started shooting. Both were shot.

The man who was inside the car then tried chasing down the suspect in his car, but stopped at Harper and dikkerson, five blocks south of Elmdale.

We're told the 38-year-old man was a member of the Ravendale gang, who bonded out of jail and was back out on the street.

Right now, there is not word on what prompted the shooting or any description of a suspect.
