How devalued are homes in NFL teams’ metro areas?

Throughout the most recent football season, a recurring NFL ad promoting a partnership with the National Urban League featured a sobering statistic from Brookings Metro’s research: Nationwide, homes in Black-majority neighborhoods are devalued at an average rate of 23%, translating to a $48,000 loss in value per home.

Our report, The devaluation of assets in Black neighborhoods: The case of residential property, examines the real estate market and homeownership in Black neighborhoods to ask the question, What is the cost of racial bias? One answer is a cumulative loss of $156 billion dollars in the value across the nation’s Black-majority neighborhoods. It can be hard to wrap our heads around a number that large, so another way of thinking about home devaluation is examining how it plays out in metropolitan areas

It’s shyt like this that black people don’t pay enough attention to, deep seated systemic discrimination that has crippled our ability to grow an economic base. Statistics like this enrage me.

I feel like there’s more to the story though. :patrice:
Generally neighborhoods with lower quality schools and higher crime are seen as less desirable and the prices will reflect that. Black folk are disproportionately situated in those kinds of environments in the US

I feel like need to see all the data on this to get a real picture of what’s going on

yup. so even if we own a home, which is the most accessible way for most of us to build wealth, they still stack the deck against us devaluing our shyt regardless :pacspit:

The other day I saw a newscast showing how one black woman gained 100k in value just by making her (white) husband be present during the appraisal and taking down all the photos

Black folks need to use the courts more often and sue these racist companies that lower the value of their homes

There was a hit piece article about Jay Z/NFL posted here recently.

Ouch. USA Today just took a massive camel shyt on Jay-Z.

This NFL partnership with the Urban League to address this topic is one of the things being done because of the NFL, Jay Z, Roc Nation partnership. Because it's not something that news cameras would show up to, it goes unreported. Behind the scene work that helps to move the needle on important issues rarely makes headlines.

They'll just raise the value of homes in non black neighborhoods so nothing will balance out and our homes will still be undervalued. Kinda like, you get a raise, but you're still not ahead because of inflation. Way to kill progress :smugbiden:

Or, this is a ploy to hasten gentrification by offering minorities even more money for their property so they'll be more inclined to sell and leave :umad:

I don't trust these organizations or the government when it comes to helping blacks...why, history.
