This mindset is very common. Even among black ivory tower intellectuals who would ascribe, what society deems as "normal", as being "white" or "eurocentric", and things that we consider "degenerate", as being the natural ways of black folks or "African".
That's why you have many of them claiming monogamy and the traditional family unit as being a European creation aligned with capitalism and proclaiming non-traditional family units (single mothers, LGBT, multiple baby daddies, polygamy) as being the natural ways of black Africans.
Doesn't matter which side of the political aisle you fall on, both sides got folks that are gone.
And do not want to take any accountability or admit that they're wrong.
If something is wrong with black folks, it's because of "systems" and white people.
If the systems are addressed and black people still exhibit the same behaviors, it's still not our fault because the barometer for "normal" is still whiteness and whatever behaviors we have is natural to our blackness.
No accountability.
A travesty.
