I was gonna let it go, but not one of those nations practices "capitalism". Each of the nations listed has a mixed economy, and attributing any ills from them to solely capitalism(or any system) is inaccurate.

that is arguable.

The definition of 'mixed economies' itself is not precise. no country practices or has an apolitical 'market economy' because that requires people not to be concerned with public policy. The political definition of "mixed economy" refers to the degree of the effect of state policy in a capitalist market economy which means they still practice some form of capitalism one way or the other- It is just a matter of government intervention. . and thierhave been many ill's concerning unregulated capitalism..........If you do not believe me, look at what the free market ideology did nearly to Africa.....

And speaking of unregulated capitalism , you asked the wrong question- you asked me 'Which country practices capitalism ?' not which uses capitalism solely as an economic system.
I'm not a capitalist and I don't think there's anything precious about capitalism. I'm just making this known to some of the more hardcore capitalists in this thread who tend to believe that capitalist production processes are the best way forward. I'm very much in support of these types of enterprises.
Sorry for assuming.......

Cooperatives are a productive way for us to struggle in an economically and politically progressive direction. They are not the solution since capitalism would still be in place, but they are progressive and contribute to building workers' power and community power.

I'm sorry but I just can't get too hyped about this. It's cool and all, but people open grocery stores everyday. :manny:

I don't like the idea of our standards being so low that opening a store in some neighborhood is some kind of crowning achievement for the black community. Not trying to be negative or anything, just my honest thoughts.

Lets leave the "free market" out of this, what happened to Africa and continues to happen is funded, facilitated, and protected by the state. The free market has nothing at all to do with it. What I think you mean by "free market" is profit motive.

Also, there are downsides to capitalism, no denying that, what superior system would you replace it with if you had the power? :leostare:

As to concerning your first statement , we can have numerous conversations about IMF policies and the fukkery it causes, but for the sake of time and energy, I will not go there.

We all know that their are no perfect economic systems , all I want is a system that allows everyone a chance for survival and for that system to be accountable.......that is all I want.

i actually agree, i think its a nice story and all, but its very pathetic that its a big deal, im actually kinda embarrassed at all the daps ive been getting lol

but either way we need more capitalism, ownership and entrepreneurialism, but to even be even with other communities we have to increase those things exponentially, this story is a tiny drop in the bucket

:mindblown: Who is claiming this to be a "Crowning Achievement?' The fact of the matter is that its a good thing this is happening. No reason to not give this group props.

I think the point is its their store though. People open grocery stores all the time but they aren't us. No one is saying that is where it should stop but its definitely a start. If it just starts with us owning the small business in our communities and keeping that money in the community I am all for it.

The Truth
Great. Now they should connect with other cities. Also keep up an initiative for good health. No good if the store is selling the "norm".
