So I went in to our main headquarters at work and asked a blk coworker if I looked like I got a tan/darker since he last saw me(I also went on a warm vacation)
He said "yeah, you're maple syrup color now"

Our yte coworker peeked out from around the wall like: :ohhh:

We looked at each other like::lolbron:

Didn't expect to mess with his head like that, he looked like he saw aliens or something :russ:

wait till they find out we can get sun burnt too.

Shame to admit I didn' t find out until adult hood, all the years playing in the sun.

I found out in the Bahamas, been to other islands, and Africa, but never got sun burn until I visited the Bahamas

Cacs actually burn tho like skin falling off burn. We get a rash at best maybe irritation. Maybe that’s why melanin is worth more than gold per ounce Who knows
I’ve gotten burnt to the point of peeling. Only needed to happen once for me to be vigilant about sunscreen when I’m out in the sun for 30+ mins. Two things I don’t play about - sunscreen and water intake

Never seen it on myself or any black people I know. Spent most of my life in the deep south.

I'm well aware that we can get darker, but the idea that we actually get damaged to the point of our skin coming off is a foreign concept to me.

I don't even know how this would work given our origins in Africa . On my trips out there, nobody was wearing anything beyond regular lotion, so I can't imagine all the locals working in the equatoral African sun going home to shed skin like lizards at night.

Never experienced it until I lived in Hawaii. I used to run around all summer without a shirt and grab really dark. I seriously thought black people didn't burn. 1st time I went to the beach in hawaii all day, no issues. Work up the next day and felt a stinging in my shoulders forehead and nose. Looked in the mirror and I had a red undertone.

I was legit like :ohhh:we can get burned! Day or two later it started peeling then I was all good. I think hawaii just has more intense sunlight. I wear sunscreen when I am on the water fishing.
