Of course we celebrate Independence Day, we were party to the initiation of the revolt. Many cite slavery as the reason to dismiss any allegiance or patriotism to this country, that's understandable. But most people on the planet have history of some sort of servitude, invasion or colonialism within the nice, clean, defined borders of the current world map of nations. In my lifetime, blacks have led most major cities (including the country!), immassed great personal wealth as athletes and entertainers, built or led billion dollar companies and recognized globally as leading drivers and influencers in literature, arts, and music. In the grand timeline of nations, we have progressed a long way in short period of time.
We have much to reconcile and a lot of issues to address as a country. We have the means, luxury, and freedom (or at least moreso than anywhere else on the planet!), to complain, call names, memes, spread lies, untruths, insult and negs to anyone including the President and the author of this post. That in itself is worthy of at least one day of celebration.
