i'm in a condo community with a bunch of units, so the HOA makes sense. but neighborhoods with freestanding homes having HOAs has always been crazy to me. takes away the point of owning your own, solitary house

and you can't avoid that shyt either. like who decides that? :dahell:
like having a landlord even though you own your land.

This is a great idea.

To have your chick be on the HOA board instead…

Homes I’ve seen lately have about $600 a year in HOA fees, which isn’t bad to me, bjt I’m wondering about having any HOA fees at all. Everyone has basically told me not to get into neighborhoods with HOA’s, but thats like all there is out here to purchase. Especially in the cookie cutter homes in Texas.

I legit think it's gotta be one of the best ideas I've ever had. Unless I'm buggin' and one of my suggestions is completely unreasonable, I effectively get two board votes for anything suggest. And it had the additional effect of actually speeding up board meetings. Our HOA meetings are like most others, where owners rarely show up, so instead of going and having to do a split meeting where the first half is open, and the second half is board only, those two go, I chill at home, and assuming no one else shows, they basically just do both meetings at once. Toughest part is figuring out where we're getting dinner that night.

Join your HOA or at least show up and participate in meetings so you have a say in what happens in your neighborhood

This cannot be restated enough times or emphatically enough. Even if you don't get on the board, just being someone that cares enough to be present and respectfully voice your opinion goes an incredibly long way.

Our HOA is pretty lax on everything except your house paint better not be faded. That’s about all they care about.

Pretty good deal if you ask me, they keep our pool and pickle ball courts nice and pristine. Drove the kids up there on the golf cart yesterday.
