Yes it is anti-higher education and just using Black female educational attainment as a proxy to make that point (look at the responses). If you can't see that, then that's on you. You literally have people on this thread making up stats like "single white mothers are making 90k and earning more than Black men with degrees" when 90k isn't even the median HOUSEHOLD income for an American family regardless of race and even to pull "stats" out of their asses like what I just mentioned to bolster that opinion. So yes, there is definitely an anti-higher education sentiment among some who responded to this thread.

Secondly, nobody said that there were not systemic issues in access to capital or acquisition of wealth but to realize that problem and state that higher education is invalid because of it is wild. There are groups in the US that do not fall into the category of the "powers that be" but have higher quality of life as a result of earning more income because of their educational attainment and specifically their educational attainment that translate to skills in specific sectors. That is the point that I am making. That's why my response was nuanced by (1) that there are majors and sectors that we should be aiming at and being represented in (2) there are systemic issues/disparities in earning potential even if you adjust for level of skills, educational attainment and qualifications. But it does not mean that higher ed should not be a primary option.
The fukk are you talking about? You straight up lying.

Even if Degrees don't guarantee you'll "Close the wealth gap", earning a degree
helps in closing it.

:yeshrug:
My wealth has steadily gone up, I invest monthly as both a hobby
and of course a necessity for a comfortable retirement, I went from 0 to
ten of thousands and it wouldn't have been possible
without going to school.

So for any Black women out there, it's a damn shame that your degree cannot
stop white supremacy but trust, you didn't make a poor decision.

Does this even really have to be said?

Why is this even a freaking thread?

What's the alternative don't get a degree?

Ask White America without a degree how is their life they can't answer cause they are dead by the age of 60!

Deaths of Despair and they have the game rigged for them and they still can't cope without a degree.

Took me three pages for someone to say this, utterly ridiculous!

Repped for "Common Freaking Sense"!

Bro there are people on here talking about personal ANECDOTES about how they know some Black woman making $10-$15.00/hr with fancy masters degrees and how degrees are worthless xyz with no nuanced arguments and as any rational person can deduct that they are just trying to use that PERSONAL ANECDOTE to shyt on higher ed when the empirical data says otherwise. Personal experience is great but aggregate/empirical data is better if you are trying to paint a wide macro picture.

Literally the WEALTHIEST Black person in America is filled with "fancy degrees" and he constantly talks about how higher education was indispensable to his success. Not saying every one who follows his path is going to be a billionaire but he/she is on the right path.

The gist of this thread is that the claim was that they were the most educated and that was proven to not be true. With that, it was stated they get worthless degrees while putting themselves in even more debt. You are making a argument for something that no one is making. You came in here with wind in your cape and your underwear on the outside of your jeans for no reason big homie.

Last response on this. I just gave you two examples while you claim NO ONE was making that argument. Secondly, I did not call you any names or insulted you for your opinion so I don't see any reason for the "caping and underwear comment" really immature. No one came in here with a cape. As an adult, you have to realize people have other opinions that you may not agree with and it's about backing it with facts.

If you don't agree then don't agree no need to name call or make snide remarks about caping and underwear outside jeans whatever that means.

Hi I’m a black woman and I have a bachelors degree in Accounting and a masters degree. My other black female friends have degrees in supply chain, nursing, computer science, engineering and business.

Next thing to say is how in the hell is psychology a bullshyt degree? The mental health of black people is something that doesn’t get enough attention. The level of PTSD this community suffers from is astonishing.
lets be real. Most people with psych degrees aren’t pursuing actual licensed therapist/psychiatrist roles.

The demand is there, but hospitals and private facilities aren't shelling out any competitive salaries for those positions unless you have a Masters and still even then the amount of debt you rack up to get it will never be worth it. Take out 90k in loans to make 45-50k? That makes it worthless financially. Only places that hire raw Psych majors are the crazy houses that pay 11.00 an hour....This ain't it chief....

If the degree doesn't make you money, it is worthless financially. It's an expensive hobby if we are keeping it real. Accounting falls under STEM, thereforen a real and tangible degree.

Mental health isn't important, people need to toughen up.

Unless sis gets PSLF, she is toast.
Toughen up? That’s a terrible way to view mental illness

:picard:

how is this place so out of touch. Talking about saving 100k like it’s normal and reasonable
Nobody said it was “normal.“ He just said that’s what his friend was trying to do. Most people don’t save that much money... but that’s why I said you should do it IF YOU CAN. Don’t try to twist up what was being said.

Unless you come from money or have a ridiculously high paying job, you’re probably not putting down more than 5%... at least not on your 1st house. MAYBE you can put down that 20% if you get a second house using the equity from your first. That’s what we did. 3.5% on the first house (FHA) and 20% on the second house (Conventional).

American Schools don't emphasize STEM or any critical thinking awareness. The students are taught to go to college and study what makes them happy, not what makes money.

Africans don't waste money on liberal/phony degrees, it is STEM or Law, nothing else. We need to take hints....

And society is still a shythole when you never use STEM to help people, like this pandemic. Whats the point of getting STEM for? To look down on other black people and to pretend to be like Europeans? Always STEM until its for the greater good, and then it's "bootstraps"
