Another higher education bashing thread. :francis:

Tell that to Indians, Asians, and Jews whose household incomes are higher than whites due to pursuing higher education.

The majority of those families had money established before they even got over here. Very few got it out the mud like most black people have to do

Because I picked up a book and got on my grind? That I don't give up in my endeavors? Better to keep improving that settle to average.

Mental toughness, either you are born with it or not.

Keep spitting that CAC shyt, and get executed savagely like one, by fed up brehs. Your (closed casket) funeral :hubie:

Don't go to college. Don't even go to trade school. Sit on the Coli and complain all day and find every excuse in the book to fail.

I don't give a shyt anymore.

Unrelated specificlly to the topic of BW and education...

A lot of people are really showing their ages here. I've been out of undergrad for roughly about 18 years now, and what I've noticed throughout this discussion is this misconception that whatever you earn straight out of college, is what you will be earning over a lifetime and that just isn't how it works.

Everyone that I know who started off in social science or liberal arts fields started off on a rough patch income wise, but eventually they found their footing some 5 years in and ended up making double or MORE than triple that over a 10 year period.

Someone with a psychology degree is not going to earn 35k a year for LIFE. Normally that's the expectation after graduation. But after a few years of experience doing something along with a few promotions, and/or a job change here and there, AND with a little more education (either through advanced degrees or certifications)--they end up climbing the ladder somewhere in that 5-10 year range.

I say all this to say that you cannot gauge the value of a college degree based on where someone is income wise within the first few years after graduation; it's completely MISLEADING. You have to really look at where they are at 5,10,15 and 20 years down the road.

.

This is simply not true. There are dead end careers and majors with very little career progression and not worth going into student load debt for. And an undergrad psychology degree is one of them. You would need a masters or phd to earn a decent living so the undergrad degree in itself is pretty useless. Contrast that with STEM where an undergrad degree will earn you more starting out of school than many psychology folks with phd's and years of experience. 5, 10, 20 years down the road the STEM major will still be making double or triple the psychology major salary.

There is no debate about which majors have the highest earning potential, its just facts. There is a reason most of the psychology majors are not working in their field and working retail or in the malls. There just isn't many good paying jobs in those fields and like you said.. it would take years before they are able to earn a decent living. Meanwhile debts and loan interest are piling up.

Data exist showing the lifetime earnings by majors. Psychology, education, social work are all at the bottom of the list. Here is lifetime earnings by Millions

We don’t obtain education to close the wealth gap, it’s to get jobs that pay more.

I do agree we should work together to get the most economic advantage.
Even if you did, there is a barrier of entry to get a job in those areas as BM has proved who has tried to get in those industries.
