BET Networks cut a deal with digital network
Black&Sexy TV to air three web series on the cable channel, including scripted drama “
RoomieLoverFriends,” in the latest Internet-to-television migration.
Black&Sexy TV, headed by Dennis Dortch and Numa Perrier, debuted in 2011 with a slate of programming focused on young black audiences. The company is a spinoff from the Dortch’s 2008 Sundance Film Festival entry
“A Good Day to be Black and Sexy.” Black&Sexy TV operates a $7-per-month subscription VOD service for access to all its original programming via VHX and also distributes episodes on
YouTube.
“We noticed Black&Sexy TV has a dedicated fanbase, and their fans’ obsession for this content mirrors the obsession our audience has for BET and our content,” said Pete Danielsen, BET’s exec VP of program planning, scheduling and acquisitions.
BET’s partnership with Black&Sexy TV kicks off with the premiere of “RoomieLoverFriends” (starring Andra Fuller, above left, and Shayla Hale) on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 11 p.m. ET/PT. The cabler will air the show in four hour-long episodes over consecutive weeks. “RoomieLoverFriends” created and written by Dortch and Perrier and directed by Dortch, explores the awkward relationship between two roommates whose relationship gets complicated after they find themselves in bed together one evening.
Two other Black&Sexy TV series coming later to BET under the deal: “Sexless,” a series about female friends who balance no sex with finding real relationships; and “Hello Cupid,” about a young, dark-skinned woman who switches her online dating profile picture with that of her lighter-
