That's why I love this message board....And I respect each and every last person who contributes to this thread whether input is negative, positive or we just flat out respectfully disagree...
This is a conversation that is needed. But, I wholeheartedly agree that as a class of ppl, we're holding ourselves back
because of our lack of unity. There's no reason why we shouldn't have our own schools, our own stores, our own neighborhoods, our own banks, our own COMMUNITY like we used to have in the past. The worst thing to ever happened to our ppl was integration. It has made our ppl complacent and submissive to powers that never wanted us to be in the socio-economical fold of this country.
Folks have to understand that racism is still alive. It influences over politics, education, economics, religion, and the way we socially interact. There has always been a war being waged against t
he so called "black ppl" (I hate to use the term because it's not a nationality but a slave title). Let's start with education, there was a time when you only needed a HS diploma and within that HS they use to offer trade programs that made it possible for young sista's and brotha's to function in a world and be able to take care of a family without a college degree. During the late 80's, they were taking out so were the many factories, plants and jobs that came with it. Some jobs were sent to secluded areas while others were sent packing overseas. Then the crack epidemic came in and that was simply by the design to destroy our ppl. There's no reason why 1/2 the brothas in NJ, NYC, Philly have no jobs. There's a problem when only 3/100 black men see college. There's a problem when only 1/4 of our black men graduate from HS. See it's easy to point out success stories like myself and probably all of you who were given OPPORTUNITIES to make it on a collegiate level but those opportunities are rare when we you clearly look at the numbers.
Public schools are the worst form of mental slavery for the black youth. People have this notion that public schools receive less money than charter and private schools, but that's straight bs. They just use it in the wrong places. When it comes to sports, they'll have everything for those players but continue to have outdated books. And when you're educating a young brotha and sista, I find it hard to believe that a white teacher can educate them on a social and political level. Please, save me with that "ol, you're being racist" because how many teachers in suburban schools are black? Most white people teach their own and why can't our ppl. Most of the our young ppl suffer from depression, alienation and inferiority and you really want to put the face in front of them of the ppl that were monumental in their oppression.
Parents have to be more involved. There are so many injustices going on in the school systems and parents are no where to be found. Growing up I use to

when my parents after coming home from work would go to my sibilings PTA meetings and make a big riff at board meetings. Now, as I go to these same board meetings just to get some understanding, I come to realize they have no intentions are educating our ppl. Superintendent is acting as a warden for the state.
There are so many teachers who are not even qualified to educate our youth. Forget about the ones who show no passion but only collecting a check every 2 weeks. It's hard to get rid of teachers who serve no purpose to that child. Principal has no power over them. And this is where we must come in as a ppl. We all need to get together and fix our own problems. The elite are putting policies and putting barriers up that are hindering our development but we are also complicit in our downfall. We must unite and put our petty differences to aside and fight our youth and our future. The one thing that our ppl must know we're a very profitable bunch but we tend to use our dollars in the wrong places. Also, don't marginalize and discredit your own ppl. My name is Carter G. Hoodson but those that know it comes from Carter G. Woodson. He was an author of my fav. book "Mis-education of a negro" and he talked about the bougie black society that live amongst you, who are highly educated, but when they get those degrees they tend to come back and look at their own negatively doing a total disservice to the advance of our ppl. I know ppl like this because my sister is one of them.
