It's strange, the music that shows the best part of us is ignored extremely. It's not like we're being stingy with our money because obviously we're buying into other categories like pop and rap. That's why I don't understand when people say "rap is dead" because of all the mainstream stuff but pretend that the good meaningful rap doesn't exist.

:yeshrug: People still rely on the Radio like it's 1994 for some odd reason.

But at the same time through, it's hard as an artist to not only make the music you want, but to also captivate and hold an audience all the while hoping for incentive of some form to keep your momentum going to put out work of subjective quality. If you're mainly into music to work out or party, then some Soul, R&B or Indie Rock isn't what your gonna check out for.

And let's be real, people in general don't really support local/underground/indie artists unless they're hyped by either their friends or social media, mainly because most people have a passive interest in music that outside of singles on spotify or radio, they're not really digging deep to fully gravitate towards an artist.

Has nothing to really do with intelligence, propaganda or any contrived notion of the sort.

THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!

I tell folks this. Everybody wanna blame everyone but themselves. When Album sales dropped, partially because of album quality being hit-or-miss and people just wanting singles,

digital made it possible to just get the song you want. Overall, the industry became less lucrative when albums went from nearly $30 to at most $12-15 for the most popular artists.

People stopped buying the good shyt. It's 100% the consumers fault. It's like when I say "fukk rap" and people talk about the underground...yea, im aware. Its the same way with

RnB, Neo-soul, soul, etc. People stopped buying the shyt, so those artists don't eat, and would rather turn their music into RnB Rap hybrids so you chumps can shake your ass

or 2-step behind a woman who is shaking her ass. The audience turned their backs, not the other way around.

Isn't soul music sorta lumped in with R&B nowadays?
Depends who's doin' the categorizin'.

What many seem to consider R&B is someone singin' over hip hop tracks.

What I consider R&B/Soul is called neo soul, retro soul, adult contemorary R&B, etc.

Same thing with hip hop. 75% illegal downlading come from hip hop/rap
Exactly we don't see value in our own culture and that's the basis of building a strong economy in your own community.
