They could have just as well killed someone in the name of the Catcher in the Rye like that guy who killed John Lennon

This is happening in rural villages where the people have 0 education.

Pakistan is an Islamic country with blasphemy laws on the books and this dude was killed in a university where people are supposed to have sort of educational background. There's no comparison.
