Bleed for This got me thinking, why so many boxing movies with white protagonists?

so a saw yet ANOTHER ad promoting that new boxing flick Bleed for This about Vinny Pazzienza and I got to wondering

what's the deal with the preponderance of feature length films about boxing that have caucasian leads?

I had trouble tracking down the numbers but it's always seemed to me that professional boxing has been dominated by people of color

yet every time I turn around there's another boxing movie coming out with a white protagonist. why is that? :jbhmm:

look at this shyt
IMDb: If you like Boxing Movies here you go !!! - a list by MoviesGalore44
:martin:

to be honest deep down I already know the answer but I'd just like to hear everybody else's thoughts

also, Pazzienza ended up getting the shyt beat out of him by Roy Jones Jr but something tells me that the film in question is not going to address that :skip:

why do many boxing movies, period? i mean, christ, it's a genre in itself. every guy who ever had even a modicum of success probably has his life story optioned.

There have been like 5 good basketball movies, ever, yet 3 boxing movies come out every year. Also, Warrior ws the best fighting movie of the decade and i can't stand mma. don't argue with me.

It's because white boxers are stereotypically seen as the "underdog," all heart and will rather than skill like black boxers. So I guess filmmakers see that as more "cinematic." Creed did a good job at breaking that trend

i think this is how boxing movies get greenlit. "We're looking for a story about an underdog. Ya know? Someone who had to fight to get where he is, ya know? Ya know?" then that's taken literally and they just write about a boxer. "oh, this guy had a speedbump in his life, this is a true triumph of a story." Who's next? Gerry c00ney? Buster Douglas? There have been more boxing biopics than friggin president biopics. I can't even name 10 biopics across other sports without really thinking. Who saw Hands of Stone? Who's gonna see Bleed for This?
