Once you get through the extensive physical and psychological evaluations and you are deemed "fit" to be a donor, you have to begin the first phase of egg donation, which includes taking 3 different drugs to induce ovarian hyperstimulation (any woman can tell you that the normal ovulation process is the pits, but taking medicine to ramp up that process x 500 is even worse). You're basically getting these subcutaneous injections everyday for the entire ovulation period and towards the end you are subjected to daily ultrasounds and blood tests. Some of the women develop chest and abdominal fluid build up and cystic enlargement of the ovaries.

Then they have to deal with the actual egg retrieval, which involves a doctor pushing a suctioning needle into their ovaries.

Sure, the money is decent, but it's not a walk in the park and it's not a fast process.

Yeah, while there is a small market for "ethnic" egg donation, most of the folks looking into this process are shooting for a certain subset of women. Considering that will be half of their child's DNA, I'm not surprised.
