We're excited that verification badges have made it easier to quickly recognize authentic accounts, especially in moments of breaking news.
Now, we're expanding our roll-out. Notable and authentic accounts can apply for verification or to become a Trusted Verifier via the form linked in our blog.

Weβre introducing a new layer of verification on Bluesky β a user-friendly, easily recognizable blue check.
In addition to account verification issued by Bluesky, we're also introducing Trusted Verifiers. Select independent organizations can verify accounts directly.

To receive a verification badge from Bluesky, your account must be active and secure, authentic, and notable. The form includes more details on our verification criteria.
Please ensure your account meets the listed criteria before you submit your request.

Remember, you can self-verify on Bluesky by setting your domain as your username.
Even if you're applying for a visual verification badge, we recommend linking your web presence to your username to make it easier for your followers to find you.

And I recommend you start thinking beyond getting people to pass even more data to Google. There are alternatives to Google Forms out there.

You're just making it HARDER on here with this "verification" bullshyt. You're going to FORCE real good people off this site. Just put in a clear & proper way to deal with fake/violent accounts instead of this worthless bullshyt.

alienintuition.bsky.social
The blue checks were stupid before and they are stupid now.
7/35

ceradempsey.bsky.social
Also, Stop Trying to be LIKE the hellhole that is now Twitter.

terrydergz.bsky.social
The thot bots are following my account as soon as I made it. I just made this acc not long ago, will you guys take care of these fake bots?

misterianzajac.bsky.social
Uh, you realize the whole attraction of Blue Sky was it NOT being like Twitter, right?
10/35

Verification happens on all social platforms in one way or another.
11/35

durrell.bsky.social
Hey
@kindafunnyvids.bsky.social you guys should apply to be a trusted verifier for your organization and then you guys can actually be verified via the organization of Kinda Funny.
Also
@gameovergreggy.bsky.social /
@blessingjr.bsky.social you guys could probably get verified as news media now

Im starting to think Dorsey knew exactly what he was doing when he dumped Twitter on Elon & now its back.
13/35

egmerek.bsky.social
Bluesky needs to increase word count in replies. The need to bring clarity and factual information is greatly limited thus watering down appropriate responses.

βNotable.β
This is just recreating one of the most broken and toxic parts of Twitter.

pizzathesteve.bsky.social
It's good to know that a politician, celebrity, journalist, or other person is real
Without trustworthy verification, you get 10 million fake Elon accounts asking for bank logins from your grandma

I am tired of the U.S. thinking the rest of the world is as backwards as them.
I already have registered my domain ownership and proved my identity with my country's ccTLD registry.
The U.S. being stupid should not preclude other (smarter) countries from showcasing identity.
My post about it:
[QUOTED POST]

tauheed-elahee.ca
Screenshot of my CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) member account.
I have verified myself with Government I.D.
Only Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residence can have .ca domains.
I have verified ownership and owner identity of the domain I use as my handle.
Blue check please.
17/35

tauheed-elahee.ca
Verification should be open to everybody, not just "notable" people.
Who gets to determine who's "notable"?
Canada just had an election. On Bluesky, one party leader has a blue checkmark and another does not. Even though the party leader with a blue checkmark did not link their domain.

@Mark-carney.bsky.social has a blue checkmark while @jagmeetsingh.ca does not have one, even though @jagmeetsingh.ca has linked his domain while
@Mark-carney.bsky.social has not.
Both ran in the previous election.
So then the question: Who is allowed to say "they are who they say they are"?
18/35

billieburton.bsky.social
I am excited to learn which insufferable people among us deem themselves to be notable.
19/35

fortran.me
Indeed. I mean, I paid for a domain to at least get close, but yeah, I don't want to apply and be told "You are not notable".
Innotable? Unnotable? Hmm...
20/35

estru.me
Bunch of Elon-brained idiots in the replies. "wHaT iS cOnSiDeReD 'nOtAbLe'?" You are not, get over it.

I'd be excited if anyone saw my posts. Now we need to be verified?
What was the point in even trying?
It's all about cliques and influence.
22/35

gamekiller.bsky.social
Is it that smart to use google accounts for the verification?
23/35

poppamu.nz
So how does this mesh with the whole decentralization thing? :P
24/35

anneroth.bsky.social
I noticed that the form is only accessible with a Google account: Will there be other ways in the future? I don't have one and would be very reluctant to create one just for this.

The linked thread and blog do not address this:
Display-name and profile-pictures of accounts can be changed at any time. Is the same true for manually verified accounts?
If so, would it revoke the verification status or just be open for abuse?
28/35

samuel.bsky.team
changing the display name or the handle invalidates the verification, requiring it to be re-issued
29/35

akramtheartist.bsky.social
Thank you so much

gambloide.omg.lol
Not giving self-verified accounts checkmarks, while giving them to accounts who do not use a custom domain-handle feels counter-productive to the goal.
Yes, for technical users who understand how self-verification works it doesn't make a difference, but for everyone else it absolutely does!
31/35

yellowapple.us
Agreed. In some circumstances (like if one's display name is sufficiently long) the displayed handle will be truncated or absent entirely, making it non-obvious (without actually clicking on the account) whether the account is self-verified.
Something like a hollow checkmark icon would work well.
32/35

angrychango.bsky.social
So you create a tier system for your users. This has been proven to not work on other platforms, but for you itβs all good to break your user base into β real people β vs β the trash without a verification markβ.
You only hurting smaller accounts like mine.
You are a POS just like any other.
33/35

carsonghrigsby.bsky.social
Verification should be the norm and not limited to "Notable" accounts
34/35

wilsupremo.bsky.social
Blue check mark on blue sky.
