June is known as Black Music Month and I thought it would be fun to make a thread each day using this template to discuss different Black music related to the questions here.

Yesterday's thread is here if you want to participate:
BMMC Day 4: A "problematic" song you feel guilty holding on to

Today's Challenge: A song that's about something different than you thought it was.

I had no idea Mariah was out here crooning about Derek Jeter when this song came out.

Schooling people takes forever; don't bother
that time when it's the last song of the album and 2Pac's voice comes in from nowhere as Kendrick interviews him

kendrick repeated that "I remember you were conflicted, misusing your influence" throughout the album's intro and various songs and I thought the "you" was generic or a poetical retort to the audience, not knowing that for the last track, it was how he started his 2Pac interview reciting his poem to 2Pac and using old 2Pac vocals

Aaliyah was indirectly giving me step by step instructions on how to have sex with a lady as a kid.

I always thought she was talking about steering a boat like Captain Ron
