Eight-division title holder Manny Pacquiao considers fighting unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr as part of his bucket list before he retires from professional boxing.
However, to date, the dream match remains a big question mark, mostly attributed to Mayweather's changing stand on the issue. However, Boxingnews24 blames Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum for the fight having slim chances of happening.
According to Robert Elmore, writer of the boxing portal Boxing News 24, Showtime Sports President Steve Espinoza offered Pacquiao three months ago a guaranteed purse of $40 million to fight Mayweather, but Arum allegedly rejected the offer. Espinoza claims besides the guaranteed purse, Showtime also offered a minimum 35 percent of pay-per-view buys.
Elmore believes that Arum could possibly be waiting for the result of Pacquiao's bout on Nov 22 against Chris Algieri, although his belief is that Arum does not actually want the dream match to take place. He did not specify why he thinks Arum didn't want the dream fight to happen.
Pacquiao is the heavy favourite to win the fight against Algieri. After their fight at the Cotai Arena in Macau, Pacquiao plans to return to the lower weight class of 140 lbs.
The Filipino congressman explained, "The reason we are fighting this fight at 144 pounds is because I wanted to see how I performed as a lower weight. If I do well, I could easily fight at 140 for my next fight. 140 is the weight. I walk around at when I'm not training for a fight. So that is no issue and even 135 would be easy for me to make."
