Man this reminds me. All those articles/stories about D'Angelo and his band watching VHS tapes of black artists (Prince, James Brown, etc) performing made me want to go back and watch more shyt like that too. This thread def convinced me to start digging up this stuff on youtube.

I didn't see this thread. Yeah, I love Bobby womack, but like Jean Toomer said, he was a 1st class piece of shyt. His whole family really. His neices/step-granddaughters The Womack sisters (Cecil's daughters and Sam Cooke's grandaughters), got some dope music as well. I have their one 45 release and hoping for a full album. A lot of people don't know his brother Cecil, that married his step daughter, wrote Love Tko. Teddy Pendergrass was the 2nd to cover it and after it took off, Cecil himself covered it on an album and it was pretty good.

Bobby was a singer’s singer and a songwriter’s songwriter

Bruh had The Rolling Stones covering his music, he wrote for Wilson Pickett and Janis Joplin.

His run in music was deep

He even helped out on Sly’s There’s A Riot Goin’ on with some guitar work
