They really just missed each other and mainly because Valero name wasn’t big enough. PAC beat Hatton at 140, a month later Valero won the WBC belt at 135 that PAC vacated iirc. Pretty sure it was some minor rumblings but there was just too much money at 147
Still too little though, Valero was a small 135, and certainly not a 140 let alone 147 fighter. By this stage Pac was juicing hard, he would have broken him down.

Fight would have had to be in Japan, Venezuela or Phillipines too, so perhaps a caveat regarding Top Rank at the time too.

this guy came out of nowhere and ruined a prospect to the point of no return

won an interim belt and was on the verge of getting a shot at BJS

then it turns out he was a gangster and overall scumbag...off to jail he went...i think he's out now but the momentum is gone

I used to think that too, but as I got older realised that Manny would have washed him, Valero got hit a lot and was in love with his left hand a little too much for the big leagues.

Manny also way too big (Ariza stimulus package), not sure they'd line up (135 vs 147).

I've always thought it would have been a 50/50 fight with an edge towards Valero, breh had elite countering ability and a mean check hook, excellent jab and could fight backwards and retain his power doing so. Punched from awkward angles just like Manny, granite chin as well. Seemed to be able to make adjustments mid fight as well/be defensive when needed. Manny took shots/liked to brawl too/which ended up being his demise against Juan.
