I know this article is nearly two decades old, but this mentality--a person from a first world country feeling entitled to special rights and benefits from a third-world country--is almost neo-colonial. Finding your values don't match their values and trying to force them to change their values is textbook imperialism, even if the intentions (i.e. justice/reparations for slavery) are good.

All it really shows is that you can't go home again. "Where you come from is gone, where you thought you were going to was never there, and where you are is no good unless you can get away from it."
