Brazen thieves steal £3,500 bike in front of shocked shoppers in daylight in London
A brazen £3,500 bike theft was filmed by shocked shoppers.

Onlookers were left gawping as a hooded man dared to steal a bike in front of a busy shopping centre of the weekend.

The hooded man used a battery-powered tool to slice through the lock on the Trek Powerfly 4 e-bike outside Surrey Quays shopping centre in Rotherhithe on Saturday afternoon.

Eyebrow raising footage from the moment was doing the rounds on social media.

Onlooker Martin Pelant, who filmed the incident, said the alleged thief was supported by three men wearing balaclavas as he made off with the Powerfly 4 electric bike.

Mr Pelant shared the video on Facebook and Youtube in the hope of catching the gang.

He wrote in the caption alongside the clip: “Seriously? In broad daylight? With a grinder in front of a shopping center full of people? Today’s thieves really know no bounds.”

Mr Pelant told cycling website road.cc a large crowd had assembled at the scene and looked on as the gang attempted to make off with the bike.

He said: “There were quite a few people walking by and some of them observing from a distance.

“Another bystander was already on the phone with the police that arrived after 15 minutes. The shopping centre security is unfortunately located at the other entrance.”

Adam Lakeman, who owns the bike, posted on Facebook page Stolen Bikes in London thanking bystanders.

He wrote: “My bike, a Trek Powerfly 4 was stolen outside Surrey Quays Shopping Saturday 6th November.

“I’m sure some people may have seen the video of them already cutting the lock with an angle grinder.

“I would like to thank the people who are getting involved, sharing the video and giving it more attention.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “On Saturday, 6 November at 13:32hrs police were called to a report of a bike theft at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.

“Officers attended and conducted initial enquiries. No arrests; enquiries continue.

“Anyone with information that could assist is asked to contact police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD3931/06NOV.”

TalkRadio are alt-right Lite. Our mayor is a Muslim man and they go against him all the time

My bike is also a Trek and was £1500 and I’ll never leave it parked in any part of England because it’s an expensive bike

The bystanders pretend to care, but none of them tried to stop it :beli:

Its bike, property, not even worth getting physically involved in.

The man did the right think, video recorded it and will probably hand it over to the police.

They already have one of the perps face right on camera and I am pretty sure they have the camera tech to trace where they were coming and going
