:dahell: Should Afro-Brazilians come to MS to find their 'roots' as well?

That title is another example of thinly veiled anti African-American sentiment where the importance and existence of AA's own culture and heritage is denied and that of non-AA blacks is propped up, exoticized, and romanticized at our expense. So called Pan-Africanist actually play a big role and propagating these toxic narratives. We need to stop giving these ignorant self-hating Pan-Africanist a pass and start calling them out especially since they're usually the first ones to start spouting off at the mouth about 'c00n' this and 'c00n' that at other AAs.

Absolutely agree.

And I say this as someone with a pan-African outlook that this is something that has always annoyed me within some pan-African circles. This sort of self-loathing that views AA culture as non-existent or lesser than, so we gotta go elsewhere to “reconnect”. No consideration nor effort to even dig within our own culture.

Like I have no issue with cultural exchange between the diaspora, i.e Brazilians playing AA music genres or AA’s practicing Capoeira, hell I encourage it. But I’m not feeling this lost puppy dog narrative they often throw on us.

Ignorant & misguided vs lonely/thirsty tricks.

That's a whole L either way.

:snoop:

AA particularly AA men probably get looked at as major suckas down there now.

Maybe, but that's still what it is. I know half a dozen brehs that went to Brazil (I've never been), but they aren't seeking a connection with the ancestors.

:childplease: Even if that's true, where did the Black people in Brazil come from?

Can we move off-topic discussions outta this thread please.

Don't mean to be disruptive. Won't touch on that angle any more than I already have.:hubie:

In your belief system, where did the white man, that is said to be have found in Europe, originally come from? In your belief system, why dont we also refer to him as where he originally came from and not where he was first found like we do black people everywhere they're found?

By the way, the lady with a "successful career in DC" (i.e. plant) featured in the video said nothing about getting to her roots. That was all given by the narrators of the video. She also sadly extended the invitation to women (her words) and not men and women. But this was a hint that theres black people here from Brazil.

When people came to the Americas they enslaved the indigenous people that were here. So when the video ends with the host saying something about the president passing legislation against indigenous, descendants of slaves, and LGBT. The first two are essentially the same.

In Virginia, Walter Plecker passed legislation in Virginia where people could only declare themselves as black or white. So what Im referring to is the erasing of heritage by declaring every person of color as "African".
