Brazil has formally joined the South Africa v. Israel genocide case at the International Court of Justice under Article 63 of the ICJ Statute.
That article allows any country that is party to the Genocide Convention to submit its own legal interpretation of the treaty when the court is deciding a case about it.
It means Brazil is not suing Israel (not joining the case as a plaintiff or defendant), but is filing a legal brief on how the Genocide Convention should be applied, strengthening South Africa’s case and putting Brazil’s position on record.
