I work in aviation and it really feels like it’s only a matter of time until some crazy catastrophic stuff happens in us airspace

Daaaaawg

Was DCA having these issues before? Wtf is going on
There were apparently tons of ATSAP reports filed by controllers in that area about the helicopter issues, with no real movement (system controllers can explain a “deal” or procedure issue)

Idk how true that is, but that’s what I’ve heard

TCAS went off in this situation, looks like loss of separation by 200ft. Not sure who’s at fault.. but this is precisely why flying is still safe because of the safeguards in place

TCAS makes it extremely difficult to have 2 airliners come together in the air

Dca seems like part of the problem
You’re saying this without knowing any of the backstory

An airliner responding to an RA doesn’t even have to happen with a loss of separation or something someone did “wrong”

I’ve heard certain controllers have airliners respond to an RA simply from a climbing/descending aircraft that was still 1k feet of LEGAL separation. We have briefings about this very instance happen, which is why I always call traffic in that instance even if they aren’t merging targets

All that to say… you don’t know any of the information about this topic or why this aircraft responded to a RA. The jet could could been VFR which only requires 500ft of separation (from the article it appears they were 800ft apart)

It’s crazy how in all my years there’s never been any issues at all. And that’s with helicopters and all kinda shyt flying around. Now all of a sudden we getting close calls?
There were always close calls. Media just didn’t report them like they are now.

There’s been many times people have had close calls and deals. Aircraft responding to an RA isn’t common but it’s not so rare that it hasn’t happened before all this either
