I dont know what book its from, (Its not my pic :hubie:) but this is more in line with what I have heard from people. Both ethios and eris

And yeah the whole independence movement was handled pretty bad imo. All the killing and raping of civilians and destroying villages only led to eritreans starting to support the independence fighters more and more and made more eritreans want to join. Ethiopian troops was on some wild shyt, this is far from all of it :picard:

My homies dad watched his whole fam get killed by the ethiopian army as a baby while they had hid him in the closet.

But i think the massacres got more frequent under Mengistu. Like I said obviously this made more and more people wish for an independent Eritrea. Who knows how the referendum would have turned out if they had it in 1961 when Hamid Idris Awate fired the first shot?

What book is that? I’d love to read it. And yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what it actually was. Eritrea had been under colonial rule for decades and had things that Ethiopia didn’t have so I can see that happening.

The separatist movement couldn’t have been handled any worse and the Derg bringing hell to the whole country sealed our fates. Abiy went as far as to say Mengistu can come back, but I’m sure Ethiopians would rip him limb from limb for all the death and the mishandling of Eritrea. That piece of shyt even sold the Ethiopian Jews to Israel in exchange for weapons just to lose to the EPLF and Woyane. Our people deserve better than what they’ve had these past few hundred years. :snoop:

Eritreans lowkey had more advantage than most in Ethiopia. From what all my older relatives told me, Selassie really wanted to show Eritrea more love since they were the lost brethren that had suffered the colonial experience so he built more shyt there than in other parts of the country and places Eritreans in positions of influence. Wonder how that worked out with the accusations of killings by his regime as well.

Another thing I’ll say is that I totally hate that there were deportations but the flip side was Eritreans that were neighbors and friends with people for years suddenly switched up and shunned their community and left for Eritrea which left many ETs with bitter feelings. All I’m saying is that shyt is complicated on both sides and we both can be sure as shyt that the Ethiopians that were deported from Eritrea had their properties seized as well.

On the whole, I’ve known many Eritreans that were extremely successful in Ethiopia prior to independence. Some families here in DC are legit rich out here just by bringing that same great business sense to America. In a weird way, some of them rich Eris are that silent minority that merely acknowledge they are Eritrean but speak Amharic and fully identify as Ethiopian.
In Dallas a lot of Eritrean fathers have an issue with gambling and drinking. That's led to a lot of Eritrean youth losing their way here. Ethiopians, you'll find a lot of professionals.

Funny my Eritrean god brother lives in Dallas. Gotta meet him one day....:ehh:

It’s mixed here in the DMV. Some ETs and Eris are total street nikkaz and some are wildly successful. For the most part they kinda fit the typical trends of the African immigrant with the strong community bonds and growing middle class representation.

I will say that between us, Eris tend to be the edgier, more volatile group that’s with the shyts while ETs want to copy off Indians and just do the school shyt and nothing else. It’s plenty of Eris like that too tho.

I understand the reasoning, but it feels like putting the cart before the horse. There’s still A LOT that has to be fixed. But if Obama could get one for blowing people up then I can’t be mad at Abiy as he’s a better candidate that Obama ever was.
