Theatrical runs still give films cultural legitimacy. Netflix films without theatrical runs are treated like disposable content. Netflix wants more of it's films in theaters because they understand this.
I agree with everything you wrote. That doesn't change the fact that short movie runs in theaters is killing theaters. In the 80s and 90s, consumers frequently went to the theater to watch B grade movies, partly for the lack of entertainment choices at home, but also knowing that movie may take over a year to reach cable TV or VHS. Today, a consumer assumes a movie at the theater will reach digital VOD or streaming in 2-3 months tops, so there's no FOMO. This means folks will only go for the Big Blockbusters. Notice all the complaining about the poor choices of movies today? Hollywood always put out a bunch of crap with some great movies sprinkled in, just like today.

My understanding is theaters keep a prorated percentage of ticket sales, where the first weekend, they keep very little, but over the following weeks the percentage increases significantly. The shorter the movie run, the lower profitability is. This reduction in profitability for Theaters started well before Netflix bought WBD.

It's a sign of aging, and changing times. To go from what movies were culturally in the 90's, to the mid 2000's to now. They are largely irrelevant. Theaters are in extreme financial distress. So are studios. The only power base that remains are the tech companies, who have a totally different relationship with movies and art.

At one point I was seeing about 30 movies a year in theaters, now, it's like 12. Theaters have closed in all the most populated metropolitan areas in San Diego. I used to walk down the street, like I was "living in Manhattan" (to quote Ted Sarandos) to go to a theater, now, it's like a 15-20 minutes drive. i saw all kinds of shyt, things I would never see now, just because it was playing. Indie movies and big blockbusters. I saw The Hangover opening night BEFORE it became a huge hit, it was just a fun summer movie.

Sometimes I'd see some indie movie that would just stun me, and have a really limited idea of what it was before watching. It's not as fun to sit in empty theaters either. What's wild is that it's all Netflix, and other social/tech companies just pushing and pushing for your attention. Doesn't matter what it is, just pay attention. Don't leave the couch. Don't look up from your phone.

I can't believe people watch movies on their phone. This girl told me she was watching Industry on her phone. I was like that is totally different experience than even a TV screen. They just ingest. I think back to like 1999, and seeing movies with my boy and his Dad, we would talk for an hour after the movie together. Seeing movies as a family. It was a different thing. I read a piece a few years ago saying that theaters should be culturally preserved and financially backed like opera houses. It felt right.

A show like Industry is perfect for your phone. It's not very visual, just pretty actors talking to each other.

Never voted for Trump in my life. While I'm pretty sure you have relatives who have. lol

Just throwing shyt at the wall huh? :russ:

You voted for him and I know this because I've read your right-wing propaganda posts in TLR and you also came into a thread where I was arguing with known MAGA posters and started agreeing with them. :mjlol: When you were simply a Marvel retard dikkrider it was funny but after you revealed yourself to be a MAGA clown it's pathetic. :manny:

Please quote me posting right wing propaganda.
Also, please explain how I would be paying the same people by canceling my current MAX membership.

I have and I'm questioning you right now. :manny: How long have you been a Republican?
36 hours later after being banned. Hope your Black friend got something for that pic. lol
Quote my Republican support or this line of questioning is dumb. Or you can get back to your original point of saying I'm paying the same people by canceling a subscription. The choice is yours.

I wasn't banned (I assume a mod bushed me, there was no explanation) and when Houston brought me back I posted a picture within 10 minutes of being brought back and since then many of the posters who came at me have disappeared, likely because of alias accounts :mjlol:

Still no pic from you? :mjlol:

I don't even care because either way you already revealed that you're a MAGA idiot
