smoke trails don't always happen. depends on the kind of damage. there's pics of what's likely shrapnel damage to the fuselage out there.

most of the logs between the pilot and tower describe hydraulic and mechanical failure. they thought it was a bird strike at first and described what they assumed was a collision or impact too.
