Part of that is jazz artist’s fault. The idea of the “jazz standard” is a major problem with jazz. In the 60s and 70s it was quite common for jazz artists to cover The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and other popular pop or r&b of the time. Bands would whip out those tracks at clubs and win over crowds. But given the snobby nature of a lot of jazz artists, bands stopped adopted contemporary music and got more insular.Bruh, nikkas abandoned the craft. It didn’t fade into anything or anyone
There’s all types of music today that could have dope jazz covers but you just don’t see it consistently enough. Instead bands will hit you with standards from the 50s or 60s (Coltrane, Miles, etc). I may love that shyt but I’m a jazz guy. Most people aren’t. We could have jazz covers of Drake, Beyoncé, etc but people are missing an obvious W to play bebop in 2023.
