Four hundred years after the first enslaved Africans arrived in colonial Virginia, Speights is grappling with his newfound identity as the descendant of slaves and the African kings who put them in chains. His internal reckoning serves as a conduit for discussion in the United States over the impact of slavery and racism, and the struggle to find a path forward as a nation of former enslavers and the enslaved.

I'd have mixed feelings after finding out about his lineage, that my own family was integral to the slave trade and sold its own family into slavery if the story is even true.

five dollar africans just like five dollar indians

Slaves from Benin were brought to brazil not america

the real truth with this DNA test is that they are semantics at base, Americans are tied to west africa because the 100 year undocumented slave trade before the african slave trade which happened where Columbus would take blacks from america to europe, west africa, and mediterranean, this why those halo groups show up there
wouldn't even have this information if they never fond Columbus' notes detailing this which were never meant to to be seen by our eyes

another pastor running a scam, you can literally pay to considered royalty in this countries, his story doesn't even make sense

Above the fray.
African kings that sold ppl into slavery huh man...just had to throw that in there:mjgrin:...I'm sleep tho...

HEADS UP to all.

History is repeating itself. In the early to mid 90s there was a growing movement for reparations in the United States and other former British slave colonies. Many of the enslaved Africans who were brought to the current United States, arrived here when it was group of colonies under the British crown. Anyway, almost on cue, a set of articles and books were written to "shift the blame / attention" on African rulers and their facilitating of the transatlantic slave trade. The stories got published in all the prominent magazines , written by Black professors and writers. Most famous one was the article written by Henry Louis Gates "Ending the Slavery Blame Game". His pbs series about Africa, also went hard on the subject.

The existing momentum for reparations movement got drowned out, as the "selected" Black intelligentsia covering the story of African slavers gave other writers the greenlight to shift attention away from Western govt.s and institutions to the descendants of the African royals and merchants who made the decisions to sell people.

The "My Great Great Grandfather Sold Slaves" article from last year, with quadruple platinum thread on the coli ,was the modern day version of Gates' article. It was given placement in such an important platform for the same reason his was. This op article is along the same lines....and expect to see more articles.
