- The accused, 20-year-old Zaquan Shaquez Jamison, claims he is physically incapable of committing the murder. He stated in court that he was a burn victim from a previous car crash in October 2023, and his hands are too scarred and "fractured" to pull a trigger. He says his parents intend to file a lawsuit related to his arrest.
- Jamison is accused of the January 13 shooting death of 17-year-old Ja’Mereion “Mari” Deangelo Crawford in Santee. Warrants allege that Jamison fired 27 rounds from a handgun through a window of the victim's home.
- Beyond the murder charge for Crawford's death, Jamison faces one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and ten counts of attempted murder.
- After the Santee Police Chief identified him as a suspect, Jamison called dispatchers and arranged to turn himself in to law enforcement. He was taken into custody without incident.
