What do you do?
When did you start?
How has it added to your life?
I want more adventurous hobbies
Started fishing in the ponds in Prospect Park back in the late 80s / early 90s as a little kid. Was instantly hooked (no pun intended). Never really got a chance to do it again until several years ago when I relocated from NY to northern Minnesota. Since then, what started as a little kid in Brooklyn just trying something different has become one of my most beloved pastimes. I'm now a full time Minnesotan and in regards to fishing, can you really do any better than a state who's nickname is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes?" I've done regular fishing in late spring / all summer / early fall, and I've also done ice fishing in the winter. During the pandemic I caught a trout who's skin was such a deep red it looked almost black.
I've also experienced deer hunting, partidge (local name for their grouse) hunting, a little bit of duck and goose hunting (not a huge fan), and I've already made the decision that next fall is my time to get me a black bear. Their meat is delicious and the pelt will make for the greatest rug I'll ever own.
One thing I did my first winter here was snowmobile and that also instantly hooked me. Taking rides on the 4 wheeler is fun as fukk too, just make sure you practice in a safe area and know your machine 110% before you really take it out for fun (in regards to both snowmobiles and 4 wheelers).
AND THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: You only hunt in an ethical manner. Only when that specific animal is in season and you don't go over your seasonal or daily limits. Never hunt on private property unless a buddy gives you permission, and make sure you use up as much of the animal as possible. If you choose to be a poacher, I along with every hunter wishes nothing but a most painful death upon you, regardless how it may come. Yes getting a kill is a thrill due to the nature of achievements, but it needs to come with a healthy respect for Mother Nature. Be sure to check your state's DNR website for the seasons of each animal, and the restrictions placed upon each season. I've also never met a hunter alive who hates being asked about hunting (especially over a few cold ones), so ask away, the more preparation the better. And make sure you purchase a license for each season that you want to hunt, including fishing.
Lastly, drop all of the preconceived notions about Blacks do this and Whites do this and all that small minded BS. Any retarded a$$hole that wants to call me or any Black hunter a sellout for doing something that we've been doing since our first ancestors showed up on this planet, but believes the brainwashing that the outdoors aren't for The Nubian Man can kiss my sellout ass as I enjoy my natural, organic, venison steaks or partridge parmesan by the crackling fire while they enjoy their struggle plate of hormone injected chicken shıt.
As a quick epilogue, as much experience as I gained over the past half decade with hunting wildlife, I have finally met my gat damn match. There's a damn shrew in my garage and homeboy has dug the fukk in. I'm at the point where I'm about to get a tiny card and see if him and wifey wanna spend Thanksgiving in the crib so we can reach a peace accord. Maybe we'll reach common ground laughing at Meathead Campbell during the Lions game, hopefully. I just know I've had it with catching L after L from one of the most primitive mammals still in existence fam
Speaking of Thanksgiving, if you ever get your hands on a wild turkey (the animal, not the whiskey) make sure you smoke it and not bake it. A baked wild turkey is easily one of the WOAT things to have to eat
