Brehs, can I register my car in a different state for cheaper insurance?

I stay with my sister a few months out the year in Virginia, still most of my time is spent in NY but the insurance is

I been thinking about changing my license & plates & just going under hers or getting my own she's paying only $70 a month

Any other coli brehs make a decision similar?

I haven't been pulled over but I do get some parking tickets by my job Glad to know it saved u money breh

I had AZ plates / registration when I lived in Seattle.

I think it depends on the state.

Seems like a massive headache, especially if you live in NY. Cops will pull you over and ask you to get your vehicle registered here. They can't force you to do it but they will say it nonetheless.

Other states dont care as much. Come to Texas and youll see plates from every state

yup I had Cali plates in TX for like 2 years. never a problem , especially living by a university. lots of out of towners

When i lived in the DMV area, same situation happened to me. Use to live indiana but move to Brentwood DC for a gig, didn't realize you had to keep insurance at all times your registration would be suspended after 30 days or pay fines daily.

Needless to say I racked up $5400 in fines for expired insurance..

Indiana doesn't do a insurance verification like the DMV only if you in accident, switch my plates/registration to Indiana and told an officer i work 5 months out of the year in MD but live in Indiana, no problems since( but i moved back to Indy about a year and half ago, i was operating about 3 years under that plan above though).....

VA is a commonwealth - be careful OP. Especially with having a New York driver's license. VA is notorious for traffic citations and insurance tracking. By the time the fines and fees add up, it won't be worth it bc you'll be paying on the back end anyway. There's cops in VA with nothing better to do, time on their hands whose job is to wait and watch out of state motorists or repeat traffic offenders.

folks in NY did it all the time...they’d use FL tags tho bcuz they don’t have state inspections in FL...and insurance shyt can be done online...if you have a friend(s)/family out there you trust then you just use their address...the only potential issue is police but a specific cop(s) would have to have a real hard-on for you to notice your shyt

but ya you’d save a ton of $$$

just to give ppl some perspective on how expensive shyt is...what I now pay over the course of 6 months for full coverage out of state would cost me 4x as much in NYC for 6 months of just liability insurance

I keep my license and cars registered with Alabama with al plates. No yearly auto inspection checks, lower insurance, everything is better
