Because on other sites (and honestly offline too), i disagree with what many brehs/brehettes think the problems are. When the topic of the black community and it's issues comes up, many bring up or argue about stuff that aren't even the main problems
in my opinion anyway.
I'm not some expert and won't claim to be, but i think these are things that need to be improved on:
1- Our need to "look rich" when in reality wouldn't have enough money to feed ourselves for a month, if we got laid off today. Not all of us, but a large amount. The mentality is,"I may not own things that asians and whites do, but hey at least i can stunt on other black people with my trinkets
". We can only stunt on each other. Hard to stunt on Ming or Abdul with some sneakers and a Charger when he actually has businesses and property and investments. Our stunting obsession is a facade, it's not fooling anyone, because it's no secret that black americans currently have the lowest household income of all groups in america. The lowest entrepreneurship rates. And our home ownership rates are lower than they've ever been. There are some exceptions, but i'm speaking in general. We rather flex than invest, but no matter how much we flex our trinkets, everyone knows we are last in every category right now.
2- IMO, we also need to brush up on our financial literacy. I've had to explain things several times, things that we should know. Do you know how many of us don't even know the difference between wealth and income?!
And how many of us make excuses about business and investing? It's like we don't want to delay gratification. We want those trinkets, instead of investing some money to get more back. We buy our trinkets to "look" rich, when everyone knows we have the lowest ownership out of every group in america. It's all a front. And it doesn't even make sense, because the wealthy people we're trying to emulate fashion-wise don't even wear that shyt.
We also have misconceptions about other races. We assume they just have 1 job like us, but they usually have multiple streams of income. Including passive income. But we see Greg or Ming in some "wack shoes" or with a regular phone and laugh at him, not knowing the jokes on us. Their money doesn't go towards that. The stuff we care about (swag) is not important in the real world. We're so concerned with shoes and frivolous shyt, but not with OWNING anything. Many of us are lost.
3- If you are poor, try to hold off on having kids until you are in a good position to have them. I know i'll make some ppl mad with this, but way too many black kids are being born into poverty,. Yall can say "other races do it too" all you want but i worked in banks for years, and you would be astounded at the amount of little kids accounts i saw that had thousands in there, i'm talking 7 year olds, they were mostly whites, asians and some latinos. Not saying you have to do that much but damn, don't have kids if you can't afford to yet. You can wait. Too many having kids at 21, with nothing to pass down to them. You keep assuming other races are doing this too but trust me, they are setting their kids up to BE IN CHARGE OF YOURS. Keep thinking it's a game, then your kids will be taking orders from theirs. They're aiming to be owners and managers.
There's more i want to say but idk....i've said a lot already....i know i'm rambling. Serious thoughts only please. I might not have been nuanced enough, but these are things that come to mind. Our mentality towards entrepreneurship and investing, obsession with "swag"/fashion, and not passing stuff down to our kids. Of course i know WS is the problem, but i do feel there are things we can do to help ourselves, because it's not going away.
