LL just a highly successive commercial rapper. Probably the 1st.

Has LL ever had a song that made u rewind what he said?
Hell yes. This right here just convinced me that his last album really wasn't listened to. Cause LL was spitting on this last album. I stayed rewinding songs. nikkas really need to sit down with a blunt or favorite drink and really listen..

For as legendary as LL is, he got a lot of mid in his discography.

That being said, his last album The FORCE is one of the best albums he ever made.
75% of that is girl/club songs. He doesn't miss when he tries and takes it serious.

They was cracking jokes on LL during the 90s, on this boards predecessor. :hamster:

By the time, we get to "doin it well" nobody was taking LL seriously, that was even before I went to college

Can u list them so I can take a listen
there was a greatest hits album that was released that covered his biggest hits from radio to mr smith...thats a fairly good compilation...you dont chart from the 80s to the 2000s and not have recognizable hits

In the 80’s he was considered to be a level below the Rakims, Kanes, KRS, and G-Raps as far as lyrical abilities. - FAIR

In the 90’s he was considered to be a level below the Nas, Jay-Zs and Biggies as far as lyrical abilities - FAIR

As the biggest solo rapper in the late 80’s early 90’s he got the criticism of being too commercial - UNFAIR

He got criticism for putting out too much music for the ladies - UNFAIR

In my opinion Jay is the GOAT, but LL is the blueprint. He was the first major international superstar solo rapper. He is the template on how you gotta mix it up with the hardcore sh!t but also the commercial/music for the ladies to achieve real success.

I mean the 90s were when we started to get an influx of rappers from not just New York but other parts of the US, partially because of the success of LL, Run DMC, Public Enemy, N.W.A, and all of them. Way more competition out there and some of those cats released absolute classics.

Also, remember that Def Jam was in the toilet for the first half of the 90s until Warren G saved the label from bankruptcy. The style LL championed transitioned to gangsta rap and then to mafioso rap through the decade. LL was largely playing catchup, though Mr Smith & Phenomenon were solid albums.

I will put it like this if I had to choose a champion by pulling them out of a hat..and I chose LL..I have no problem with that. I can put LL up against anyone from the 80s 90s 00s 10s and with this last album now.. To me he cemented his argument for GOAT with this last one. Even more so then anyone from the 80s or 90s cause none of them have been able to put out an album like his last..except Nas..
