Get a Chilton or Haynes manual on the car that you have. If you can find a manual online, print it out. Having it on paper is going to be better than online or downloaded on your computer. Your fingers and hands will be dirty while working on a car. You don't want to be using the mouse or slider with oil and grime on your fingers.
Become a member of a forum that focuses on the car you have. Don't join a forum that focuses on Honda when you have a Toyota Corolla. You will meet similar owners who are DIYers who have experienced similar problems and, more importantly, know what is needed to get it fixed.
