I've been rapping for a year and I'm finally ready to drop something but I have 1 problem.

Should I mix my 1st single or should I drop it unmixed?

Also does anybody do track covers?

you'll be able to find artists for covert art just running through IG. there are so many talented kids out there

pay someone to get the song mixed man

consider dropping one song at a time, with visuals, until you have a little following that would allow you to drop a whole project without it going unnoticed

good luck

1 song at a time is smart. Any idea how far I should space it out?

i have no idea man. its a tough game and knowing how big the internet is and how fast it moves can be overwhelming. everyone in "the game" says "market yourself online :ooh: build up a following :ooh:" but will turn around and clown unknown people who post links to their mixtapes

just focus on making the best possible music you can make and if you have a little bread to spend on making it literally sound better through mixing and mastering go ahead and do that. honestly i think visuals are key now. this isnt the blog era anymore where people are just clicking links to downloads; every new song ive got turned on to, 99% of the time it was through that songs visual component

its hard enough to be an artist and put time and effort into your craft when you gotta deal with day to day real life shyt. but now, on top of that, you gotta be a brand builder, marketer, networker on steroids, all while giving off an aura of organicness and not being too spammy.

i honestly dont know how the game is played these days. good luck to you bro. maybe start linking with other people in your city too, producers, songwriters, other artists and just start "building" as they say

and be sure to give your producers credit at least, or pay them if you are in a position to  matter fact, linking with an aspiring producer and building together is a good idea. production carries everything now. theres nothing i hate more than new/upcoming rappers using generic ass "type" beats they ripped from youtube or soundcloud that sound like shyt. start building with a good producer, there are thousands of them out there. find someone you can work one on one with and build your own sound and style together

and from here on out the only time you should be spending online is networking, promotion, content creating and learning. anything that uses your personal time but doesnt make you a better artist or makes you money, needs to go

:wow: in depth

But the only thing that seems overwhelming is the selling myself part

Definitely mix. That's what separates the amateurs from the pros. Professional mixing isn't cheap but it's worth it and is a great investment in yourself.

Don't Believe the Hype
if you're serious and passionate with your work and took time into crafting the lyrics and recording the track, WHY, in God's Good Name, would you release an UNMIXED track?

I hear half a measure of an unmixed track and I shut it off.

You can get solid cover art for $50 or less.

Invest in yourself and your craft.

Definitely mix and master it well.

Definitely pay for cover art.

If it is a real single, treat it as such. If it's just hey I wanna throw this on soundcloud, do whatever you think is best.
