The issue with settlements and the push for police reform is that the entities that are funding these settlements profit whenever these things happen.

If money from settlements was coming directly from the police's pension fund or from their budget, then that would be different.

How things are now... The cities that are forking up the settlement money for the victims/victims families go to financial institutions (banks, investment firms, Wall Street) to get the money. Police Brutality Bonds get issued to cities/municipalities by these institutions... there is interest on these bonds. The money gets paid out to the victims/families and taxpayers pay it back WITH interest. Meanwhile, the police force doesn't lose any funding because they aren't footing the bill for the settlement to begin with.

:mjlol:

That's why the whole 'Defund the Police' Movement was hilarious to me because that wouldn't stop police brutality because the financial industry would still be making millions and in some cases billions of dollars off of police brutality and settlements.

There is no incentive for banks and insurance companies to want to see change because they are CAKING off of it annually.
Police don't give a fukk because shyt happens in the field, there's a blue wall of silence, and at the end of the day... they are getting their pension.
Cities are in debt, so when push comes to shove, they'll just tax the residents more to recoup and pay for the interest back on the bonds that were needed to cash out victims and their families.

The cycle continues, rinse and repeat

:yeshrug:
if a policeman is rightfully charged for their crimes what good is their pension

Defund the police is about policing a different way cause this shyt ain’t working and it moves money from police budget which you’re advocating

Lol they didn’t accept money in exchange of dropping the charges. Lol wtf some of y’all really can’t read. They deserve money and justice. They made no exchanges. Them suing the city for misconduct is completely separate from the actual criminal trials of the murder...They are demanding both in civil and criminal court. :what:Y’all sure y’all black?

The ignorance in this thread smh

Calling the Taylor family c00ns smh

what I see over and over is the unions are so damn powerful and they have all of these DA's by the balls. That is a major root of the problem we don't talk about enough.

Why are these police unions so powerful, to the point they can virtually assure no officers are held accountable for crimes they commit?

It's simple...

DA's & Judges are elected officials. Money buys elections from local to national which is why fundraising is so important. But it is a even a bigger magnifying glass on local elected officials. To get the endorsement of the police union is the biggest endorsement a DA and judge can get. So when a cop kills someone unarmed or acts in a reckless act, there is no buffer to punish them..

Quick true example of how diabolical police unions are. Guyer killed bothem jean off duty, the initial lead detectives including my brother who wanted to charge guyer THAT NIGHT WERE REMOVED from the case!, they ended up arresting her in another town, even though she killed him dallas country and tried to get the trial moved, paid for her legal fees, etc...

NOW the sad part is, the "Ambulance chasers" Benjamin Crump & Lee Merritt instructed the family to do all that damn hugging, forgiving and c00ning and the City of Dallas said NAH we are dismissing your wrongful death suit, and the Police union is not liable to pay either because Guyer killed Bothem-Jean OFF DUTY. So in the end the family didn't get ANYTHING but a lost relative. Guyer will be out in a few years and the union didn't even suspend her pension..

If you do not kill the head of the snake(union) nothing will change.

You have a racist in the white house who calls himself the "law & order" president, you have a democratic presidential nominee that created a law that put so many blacks in prison to this day along with his potential VP who also "backs the blue".

Point is, rather its trump or biden, neither is going to piss off the unions and defund them so it will be wash, rinse, & repeat no matter who is in office in November...

I’m tired of these c00n ass family’s settling for some cash. No amount of cash is worth the life of a loved one, yet these families keep putting a price tag on the deceased. And the pigs won’t be held accountable, and everything will get swept under the rug. It’s despicable and I’m tired of it. :unimpressed:

it's not entirely about the family getting something, it's about the county/state losing something. it's gonna cost them one way or the other.:sas2:

yall aren't getting it.

@CrimsonTider dropped knowledge in here and I hardly agree with Duke.

The city awarded that money because they know that the state isn't going to charge those cops or if they do, it will be a weak case.
