Donald J. Trump Statement Regarding British Referendum on E.U. Membership

The people of the United Kingdom have exercised the sacred right of all free peoples. They have declared their independence from the European Union and have voted to reassert control over their own politics, borders and economy. A Trump Administration pledges to strengthen our ties with a free and independent Britain, deepening our bonds in commerce, culture and mutual defense. The whole world is more peaceful and stable when our two countries – and our two peoples – are united together, as they will be under a Trump Administration.

Come November, the American people will have the chance to re-declare their independence. Americans will have a chance to vote for trade, immigration and foreign policies that put our citizens first. They will have the chance to reject today’s rule by the global elite, and to embrace real change that delivers a government of, by and for the people. I hope America is watching, it will soon be time to believe in America again.

CNN says Morgan Stanley has denied rumours that it is moving 2,000 City jobs to Ireland & Germany.

Seems like the globalists are still fear mongering but things are stabilizing.

We will see in the long run who will be better off, If the EU even survives.

This is huge because it legitimizes Trump's worldview. Media can't treat it like a fringe coalition of freaks and idiots anymore. America's largest ally just voted to affirm Trump's ideology :russ:

edit: hold on, they're already trying to spin and delegitimize this referendum as a big mistake :russ:

During the last UK election, The Conservative Party (Tories), led by Prime Minister David Cameron, faced pressure from the far right party (UKIP) over refugee immigration and jobs. Just like in the US, there is concern about the cultural values being brought in by accepting (Muslim) refugees. But the UK also has the added factor of economic immigration from within the EU, mainly from Eastern Europeans. Because many British people are still suffering the effects of the recession, they naturally believe that immigrants are taking their jobs.

The far righties wanted Britain to leave the EU because as a member, you agree have certain elements of your country being collectively determined by the main EU body in Brussels. The mainstream Tories were ok with that tradeoff, but far right people didn't like that because they're nationalistic and they want complete sovereignty over their affairs. So in order to appease the far righties, David Cameron said that if they vote for him, he'll set up a referendum so the country can decide if they want to stay in the EU or not. That referendum was last night, and to many people's surprise, they voted to leave. PM Cameron just said he'll step down in October.

The left faced a similar dynamic. Far leftists dislike the EU because of how it allows bigger nations, like Germany, to dominate smaller nations, like Greece. Basically, the EU isn't leftist enough for their liking. The Labour Party is the mainstream leftist party, but they recently elected Jeremy Corbyn (The British Bernie Sanders) as their leader. He's being criticized right now because although Labour's official position was Remain, he was was pretty :manny: in his efforts to promote Remain. People are calling for his resignation as well.

The markets are going wild and the British currency is tanking because Britain will have to renegotiate all the things that being a member of the EU already covered. Their future is looking precarious and unknown.

TLDR: The far left and far right are expressing a dissatisfaction with the centrist, mainstream elite from both parties. It's a similar dynamic as what's taking place in America right now. Many people voted to Leave the EU as a "fukk you" to the mainstream centrists who are telling them to Remain. They believe the mainstream from both sides are profiting from globalization while leaving the little guy behind. There's a lot of history between Britain, and Europe, and the formation of the EU, and British national character that I skipped, but I'll go into it if you want.

This is good except like most mainstream politicians you keep dismissing immigration as matter of xenophobia, which it is, but real wages in both the us and the U.K. have stagnated

Trying to call people whose wages are stagnating due to a large influx of low skilled workers is a recipe for what happened in the uk

The people that benefit the most from globalization are the highly educated and the low skilled workers themselves who get to leave shytty countries, pretty much everybody else loses

Swarby is right that this is blairs fault, Blair deliberately allowed a huge influx of low skilled workers from Eastern Europe even tho it wasn't required by the eu treaty

Obama and mainstream republicans are trying to do a similar thing here and that is why trump came out of nowhere

I'm personally pro globalization and pro free trade but I also realize that immigration causes wage stagnation and social conflict, politicians need to understand this

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
Single most important event leading to this conclusion is the Iraq war. Second most important is probably the degradation of the British welfare state. Blair more than anyone owns those.

The technocratic ideal behind new labour is dead. This referendum displays that if nothing else
Blair might have supported the invasion but he was powerless to stop it. Europe would have had this immigrant problem whether or not they supported the war.
