I mean two things can be true here, yes potentially 10 years in Russian prison is egregious BUT at the same time, if you traveling overseas with shyt you probably shouldn't be having on you then it's up to whatever that country you're traveling to wants to do. Especially when tensions between the US and Russia are extremely high right now. She doesn't really have a choice in the matter. Saying whatever rules they got is dumb isn't really gonna change anything.

I guess this should serve as a notice for people who decide to go to certain countries for work or sports. Especially in a country the US has a conflict with. Keep it clean or this happens.

Two things can be true. It can be the way these countries run things and it can also be ridiculous. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Just because these countries are on some midevil antiquated ways of thinking it doesn’t mean that I have to just be like “ their country their rules”. I’m not in position to settle this issue but I think it’s ridiculous just to talk like this treatment is fair. And I’ve lived in Qatar where everything is illegal if you are not rich and even the people there no a lot of the rules are extreme. And people break them all the time. Who in here is saying that the treatment is fair though? Everyone would tell you that the punishment doesn't fit the crime, but again she committed it in another country and are bound by their laws regardless of whether you agree with them or not. We don't agree with a lot of the bs laws here in the US and it's no different than other countries. The difference is she didn't commit it in the US and doesn't have the support system on her side had she committed her instead of elsewhere.
It's why basic common sense tells you that different countries operate differently and to abide by the rules and regulations of said countries because it's only so much your home country will be able to do and help you.
